Cats coming soon — 2 Comments

  1. Very much looking forward to this book Nick with an excellent selection of models.
Jun Maekawa ‘s ‘White Socks’ has always been a favourite of mine and I have only recently discovered the excellent designs of Oriol Esteve; I will look forward to folding his Nosy Cat.
My one observation – and I expect I already know the answer to this – is whether it was absolutely necessary to fold the models from such highly patterned chiyogami. I expect this is the publisher’s choice and reflects the paper that is offered with the book, but I cannot help but feel that the busy pattern of the paper gets in the way of, or sometimes confuses, the clarity of some very elegant designs. I imagine that when I get the book, I will probably fold the designs in a much plainer paper which, personally, I prefer.

    • I agree 100% – it’s entirely the publishers decision and I’ve argued against it long and hard. They feel that the casual browser of the book will be more impressed by patterned paper. Originally, they wanted the videos to use the same paper, but thankfully, I managed to persuade them against that.
